COSTS

Patents

A provisional patent application will cost between $4000 to $6000+ including GST to prepare, depending on the nature of the invention.

The initial draft is where the foundations are laid. It is advisable to ensure that the draft is as complete and as thoroughly prepared as possible. This quite often serves to dramatically reduce examination costs in each country in which you ultimately proceed.  In some cases such costs can amount to several times the initial drafting cost.

As detailed in our 'Frequenty Asked Questions'
You should choose a patent attorney who demonstrates a good interest in and an understanding of your invention. You should choose a patent attorney who is candid about the costs of the patenting procedure and has solid technical qualifications. Importantly, you should choose a patent attorney who shows an in depth attention to detail.
In our opinion it is advisable to meet with at least two patent attorneys from different firms before proceeding with a patent application.  Please contact us to arrange a meeting.
Designs

If engineering drawings are provided in PDF or DWG format we generally charge $250 for preparing the drawings to accord with margin, line and view requirements.

We then have a processing charge of $500 + GST.  The processing charge includes charges for: (a) creating a file and monitoring deadlines; (b) filing an application; (c) dealing with formality issues; (d) forwarding the certificate of registration; (e) providing reminders regarding the 5 yearly renewal; and (f) advising of overseas convention deadlines.
Trade Marks

In the case of a trade mark, we have cost effective rates.

For example the cost of our availability and registrability search is in the order of $810 for four or more trade mark classes.
